...the GT500 should be a good match up. The C6 layeth down the spank on the Shelby in Car&Driver's newest issue. The C6 was the clear winner.

Top speed was only 153 mph
Times are 4.5 0-60 and 12.9 in the 1/4

About the same as a '03-'04 Cobra...not much faster than stock '05-'06 GTOs ?

wow that's it? Bolton F-bodies are faster than that. Then again it's c&d, sometimes they let their kids do the 1/4 runs.

I haven't taken the time to read the article yet, but a co-worker said that the writer commented on the fact that it was no faster than the '03/'04 Cobra that they tested, and that it sure didn't feel like 500hp.

I've got a 12.5 out of my C6 at 114. Cobra's taste like chicken.

I Ain't Skeered of no snake!!!!!

:seeya:

Sounds about right...C&D showed 12.8 @ 113 ...don't know how tight the motor was. 12.9 @ 112 for the GT500...and they are claiming output @ 500hp/480tq, and it got spanked by the C6 on almost everything tested. Vette looks way better, imo.

Main reason not to buy the GT500, besides the Additional Dealer Profit...Ford's ugliest engine bay ever?

hmm that makes me think that maybe that power is being put to stable by some kind of electronic system. Like torque management, traction control, or some equivalent. I thought ford was nuts selling 500hp in a stone age chassis like that, maybe they realized it too. :confused

I know the SRT-8 chargers have some kind of traction control you can never really turn off. Also i'd like to see the specs on the tranny going into these cobras. If they're T-56's, they would need to be way stronger than most.

I personally would like to see some numbers from other magazines/webzines/testing groups. I realize it will probably be a while before there is a good selection to get an average feel from. I've seen some places put out numbers way lower or higher than anyone else's. I can't remember what place it was, but there was one place that rated the 05-06 Mustang GT at like 5.7 0-60, and the 05-06 GTO at like 5.5 0-60. They also rated a, I think 350Z, at 5.6. This may no be exact, but is pretty close to what they got.

But, that doesn't surprise me a whole lot to hear it may be slower than you would expect from the numbers. It is possible that the GT500 isn't overly efficient. I've roughly heard some things about how the body design of it is limiting top speed (or something like that) and there may be some other issues. Plus I think the engine is high-winding to where you have to hit higher RPMs to get more pull (compared to, say, an LS* or LT*). Is that true?

spinning the crap out of the tires
and no powershifting.
In their opinion On sticky tires and powershifting expect mid to low 12s....
(I run 12.0 at 113 for comparison)
Alos in their opinion Spend couple hundred bucks on blower pully and computer chip and your looking at getting into the 11s..
Factory supercharged/turbocharged cars are hard to beat for
ease of modding.
Unless your running mid 12s or better I wouldnt get
too cocky around these things unless you like loosing...

I wouldn't mind letting them take a shot at the title, once my mods are complete; all-motor. It should be fairly close, unless the limited production and most powerful Mustang ever built is already modded in order to beat stock C6s

I wonder if Shelby promised Ford a C6 spanker that would even give the ZO6 a run for its money. The lies that the salesmen will probably tell their GT500 buyers might not hold up too well when they get their GT500s out in the real world.
