Jep, Germany calling. WTF is up with the Alternator mounting? How should it be?

Jep. Tess was schlepped back to the shop again for numerous issues. One was that the v-belt shredded, and the other was an Exxon Valdez leak from the gas tank after a fill up. Fasten your seat belts. This is the kind of crap I deal with every day from other shops that do shoddy work.

The first issue is with the alternator mounting. Can anyone send me photos of what the correct setup should look like? I hope you are sitting down.
This is not correct. I am a MoPar guy, but I do know a bit about Pontiac's.

OK. I am having problems with the posting of the photos. In the photos, you can see what I am dealing with. I can fix the broken mount, welding it up and making it pretty are not the issue.
How should it look with the bracket for the tensioner?

All the best from Germany,

Jonathan Kriebel.

Here's a shot of my 67 the way it was, and will be again. Looks like someone abandoned the rear brace and beefed up the front one (the two sandwiched at the alternator). As far as the cracked open cast aluminum...it's cracked open.

a shot from below...

Thanks. At least I have a reference point.
Your water pump pulley is wrong and your upper mount is missing the support arm and is mis-installed.

Here's my '67, original parts since '67.

THANKS! Not my car, but a car in the shop. I work on every customers' car if it was my own. Is there any source for the correct brackets? Thanks again.

Try the PY/AMEs forums, AMES Pontiac parts, Franks Pontiac parts, etc. That aluminum lower Power steering pump mount needs to be replaced as well. Never seen one broken like that. Likely too big a bolt.

Franks Pontiac parts
Thanks, I found the bracket from Franks, I will give them a call in a minute. (I have an American Telephone number here in Germany.) Unfortunately, the aluminium lower bracket has been sold. The car has no power steering.

I ordered the upper bracket from Franks, and I have to say that this was the most uncomfortable and unsecure purchase that I have ever made in my life. Sending a copy of my credit card, sharing the security code? Crap. I hope that this does not go sideways. I still need the aluminium lower support. Welding cast aluminium is not something I have a lot of faith in.

Frank's Pontiac Parts is a good place to buy from even though their web site is not fancy. You'll have no problem with them, I've bought a several hundred dollars worth of parts without any issues.

They appear to be on the level. Shortly after sending the information, I received an email telling me that the brackets are for a car with power steering, and that they don't have the ones for manual steering <<sigh>>

HELP! Ist there a difference between the top bracket (strap) for Power steering, and Manual Steering?

I weld cast aluminum all of the time. If you can weld aluminum, then it's easy. Just clean the crap out of it.

What you need to do is to apply a generous coating of Tobasco sauce to your nuts, then use your wifes mustache trimmer to give em' a nice close shave.

That I dont know... but considering that manual steering has no pump, Im going to say... YES, there's a difference.

Jep, I have done it as well, but the old aluminium has a shite load of crap in it, and this is not my car. I only want to deliver premium work. I found one on eBay. Still missing the rear bracket though.

I wonder, though. If the alternator is in the same position, then they should be the same. The only difference that I can see is with the lower bracket.

Only one upper bracket for manual steering.
