DETROIT, Mich. -- Autosport Development has announced that SCCA SPEED World Challenge Touring Car regular Jim Osborn will pilot the team’s second SPEED GT Pontiac GTO in 2005. Osborn’s Chili Pepper Racing team will continue, with its crew members joining forces with the Autosport Development team.

“This is a great opportunity,” Osborn said. “We spent quite a bit of time working with the Autosport guys toward the end of the 2004 season. In fact, I had hoped to drive Stu Hayner’s #5 car in the second race at Mosport. Unfortunately, something let go in the morning warm-up and there wasn’t the necessary time to get the car ready for the race.

“I am excited about the new GTO and being Stu’s teammate,” Osborn continued. “The whole Chili Pepper Racing crew is looking forward to moving over to the GT division. The Autosport Development program brings a level of professionalism to the table that will be of great benefit to the charities we work with and to our marketing partners.”

David Moxlow, owner of Autosport Development, agreed with Osborn. “We’re really happy this came together,” said Moxlow. “We’ve spent a lot of time with Jim, his brother John and the rest of the Chili Pepper team. I think there’s a lot of synergy in our programs and I think the shared effort will show up in our performance on the track.”

Osborn, 42, began driving Solo in 1981 while in college. He ran his first road race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 1996. Osborn began is SPEED World Challenge career driving 10 races in 2002 and had his best finish (13th) at Washington DC. Jim’s red BMW 325Ci has since become a recognizable entry in the Touring Car series and known for the three charities, the Remote Area Medical Volunteer Corps, Light House Family Retreat and the TC Thompson Children’s Hospital prominently displayed on his car.

Osbron’s charitable efforts earned him the 2003 Jim Cook Award—the highest non-racing honor in the series. In 2003, he, drove in seven of the 10 SPEED Touring Car races and had his best career finish of 11th at Sebring.

An orthopedic spine surgeon, Osborn enjoys running, skiing and motorcycling. He combined his passion for motorcycles last season by sponsoring a celebrity ride from Road Atlanta with proceeds benefiting the Lighthouse Family Retreat.

Chili Pepper Racing has raced in the World Challenge Series since it was formed in 2001, and serves to raise monies and awareness for designated charities at no cost to the charities.

Autosport Development competes as part of the SPEED World Challenge GT Series. All events are nationally televised on SPEED Channel. In 2005, the SPEED World Challenge Series schedule will include street races in Denver and St. Petersburg, and make the traditional stops around the country at great tracks like Sebring, Road Atlanta, Lime Rock Park, Infineon, Mosport, Portland, Road America, Mid-Ohio and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Great to see the GTO in the Speed GT Challenge, which IMHO is one of the most exciting racing classes out there.

Best of luck, boyz!

Does anybody know how to contact any pro racing teams with GTO's? I'm looking for more weekend work and the 350Z team I was with for the 2004 season isn't racing as much and the budget got cut! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again,
Kirk
