First time land speed racing for me, for some of our team and our car, a 1978 Pontiac Firebird affectionately named "Furious Bird". as a team, we progressed from being a rookie to now holding an "A" license. this licenses allows us to drive up to 250 mph at Bonneville Speedway. we drove on all four course during the week. top speed achieved was 201.364 mph. the car is powered by a 358" sbc, about 850 hp.

what an awesome experience. this was a total team effort. met a bunch of nice racer people there and officials who are all volunteers. as you may imagine, we are looking forward to next year when I think we have a good chance at approaching or surpassing the record of slightly over 220 mph.

I want to thank my team and speed week officials for allowing me to have this adventure.

I bet that was pretty awesome.....and probably a little scary in a good sort of way. Have you ever seen a movie called The Worlds Fastest Indian? If not you should definitely look for it, I think you'd enjoy it.
Congrats on the "A" license, that's a big achievement.

One would expect it to be scary but it didn't feel that way at all. when in the car, all suited up, at the start-line, beast of an engine idling and looking down track; it was calming. I was focused on doing the right things to make the pass (5 miles in a little over a minute) with little else on my mind. I felt very safe in a fantastically prepared car as if totally protected and without a worry. At that time, i didn't notice the air temp (almost 100 degrees every day), didn't think of the potential danger, just focused on getting down the track. After every pass I felt unusually relaxed.

saw the movie and would recommend it for others.

thanks for the congrats. the whole adventure was very special for me. without such a dedicated team of friends solely there to help me drive my car very fast, this could not have happened.
