My 72 won't turn off with the key, and I have to pull the alternator wiring plug to turn it off.

From my research it seems it would be the ignition switch.. But to add a wrinkle, I have a kill switch that is working properly but I suspect that could be the culprit as well.

Any tips on installing a new ignition switch if that's what I need to inspect or replace? Thanks!

Hmmmm...that kill switch could be suspect depending on how it is wired in.

Is it some sort of theft deterrent system?

Ignition switch is relatively easy to replace.

Thanks Alky. It's a deterrent to power the ignition to start it up. It might slow a dumb criminal down a bit

Since the kill switch works as always I'll probably get a new ignition switch and take a stab

The ign. switch should take about 10 min's. to replace & adjust will take a little longer, but you should have it done in about 1/2 hour. The kill switch depending on how you have it wired in may be the cause of the switch going out to. I'd disconnect it before you replace the switch so you don't burn another one up.
