I have one of these and am wondering where you point it to have the most accurate idea of internal coolant temperature.
Do you point it at the thermostat housing or where? I get different readings and they are all cooler than what the factory gauge shows.
I don't trust the factory gauge.

I have always pointed it at the thermostat housing on all my cars. I have noticed that on our '66 GTO the thermostat housing typically reads around 3 degrees hotter that when I point it to where the temp sending unit screws into the intake manifold.

I check the thermostat housing, upper and lower radiator hoses and the heads. The heat differential between the radiator hoses will give you and idea of how the radiator is working.
