Hi everyone I am new to this forum and need some advice or opinions. I am thinking of buying this car and was wondering what anybody thinks it is worth.
To be honest my intentions are to clean it up put it back together,fix any minor issues,and try to make a profit.Possibly add a GTO hood and letters in the grill to make a clone. Maybe drive it around for the summer! :) But that would require ins,tax,title reg, ect. and chip away at any profit that could be made. I would either repaint it myself or do a low cost Maaco paint job. I would love to keep this car,but any profit I make would be used to put into my current project.
I have never flipped a car for profit before, but I think with this one I could do it,opinions on my plan would be appreciated as well.

So based on the photos and description of the car what would it be worth? I have yet to see it in person but it looks pretty good in the photos. I am assuming it runs/drives decent and no major rot in the frame or floors.

I have left his asking price out on purpose so it wont influence anyone estimate. I will post it after I hopefully get a few responses.

Here is a description from the seller:
1966 Pontiac Tempest. Title in hand. Runs and drives. needs Full resoration but still looks good, Body is Pretty Respectable, it would make a great Hot Rod!! 400 Cubic Inch Pontiac Engine with Holley 750CFM 4 Barrel Carb. Brand New Holley Electric Fuel Pump , Turbo 400 Transmission, 10 bolt Non Posi Rear, Black Satin Painted Exterior, Black Factory Interior but comes with New Blue Interior Seat Covers ( still in Bags), I have the headlamp bezzels and grills, has
Torque Thrust Type Wheels, Exhaust Sounds Great, Tight Front End, First person to come and see it will take her away!!!!

To make it a easy flip you need to buy it around 2,000 to 2,400. Plan on around 2,000 for for parts & labor. Then ask 8,000 to 9,500 for the quick flip. If you end up with more than 10,,000 in it. It may take longer to sell at 14 to 15. Cause you can find a GTO in that range how days. Betting the guy is asking around $5,000 for it. So it will probably end up with somebody who is not planning on flipping it. LES

Pop rivet patches on the floor + flat black paint = lots of hidden surprises.
I would only go $2000 if it really does run and drive well.

I saw those patches too. I know it`s hard to judge from just pictures alone. I really need to see it in person could have a 100 lbs of mud in the quarters for all I know. Just trying to get a rough idea on cars worth as it sits right now.Thanks for the replys so far if anyone else wants to chime in, I am all ears!

Tops for a Tempest in A-1 finished condition is 15-18K. if you can get it for 2-3K and it does run and does'nt need a new suspension you should be OK. Good paint materials will set you back a grand if you do it yourself, the rest is labor, labor and more labor...profit will be what your times worth to you.

I guess I may as well say the asking price it is $3800. I feel like if nothing else I would at least get my money back from someone if I couldn`t turn a profit. I am debating with myself if I want to make a call and talk to the seller. I only want to call if I am truly serious, I don`t want to waste his time or mine if I am not serious about this.
$3,800 would go a long way on my own project.

And of course in todays world of mass communication via the internet, "deals" are hard to come by. You can bet many have already looked at this car, and being that it is still for sale... Well, you can do the math :)

Thanks for the replys everybody, maybe this isnt the slam dunk money maker I thought it was. Still seems like it could be a decent project for the right person. I think i`ll hang onto my money. I suppose if it were a true G.T.O at $3800.00 it would be a steal. That said if it were a true G.T.O there would be a "1" in front of the 3800.

Personally, I have a hard time understanding the value difference from a GTO to a Tempest or LeMans, they are 99% the same car. Until you get close enough to read the badge, the average person would have no clue! I would have preferred a LeMans at a lower cost if I could have found one with a 4spd! I only looked for a couple of months though prior to buying my car, as my shop was ready for a project!

Heck, since a Tempest is hard to come by, you would think they would be worth more than the GTO!

The trade off of the Tempest are like the OP said lower initial costs, by the time your done it's really a GTO in sheeps clothing, as all the parts you put in it will be GTO with the GTO premium attached. In the last two years i have parked next to dozens of GTO's at the shows, and last week a nice restored 67 lemans but never another Tempest. Have seen maybe 4 on the road in that time and had countless people say "whats a Tempest?" If he's asking 3800 i would offer 2800 and go from there, hoping to get it at 3 grand. The thing i like about the Tempest is i can add my subtle customization without destroying the value of an original GTO.
