The battery light in my '67 doesn't seem to come on correctly. It lights up when I turn the key to the left (to the Acc position) and it says on for the duration. Then when I turn the ignition to the on positon, nothing. Then when I start the car, the light flashes quickly and then goes off.

Can someone tell me if this is what I should be seeing? Seems as though it should be opposit of what I am seeing -- light should come on when the ignigion is turned on and stays lit until the alternator catches up and takes over for the battery.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tested the voltage on my battery with multimeter. Motor running: 12.4. Motor running, lights on: 12.2. Looks like my alternator is bad. But would this give the battery light results noted above?

:agree A bad voltage regulator will also cause the output of the alternator to read low when the car is running. The "switch" that turns off the red light once the car starts and starts charging is inside the regulator.

Thanks, guys.

Took alternator to AutoZone and it tested fine. Cleaned the connections, reinstalled, tightened belt and presto, it worked.

Would still like to know if the battery light is supposed to come on when ignition is turned to "on" position.
