I don't think so, because of the face-plate. It may not fit through the rear of the housing with the face on.
It has to be unscrewed from the front/face in order to get access to the mechanism.

You have to remove the dash and for what it is worth, I was never able to find the replacement part referenced in the Hot Rod article....My original Tach went bad and now I had to resort to a eBay unit....

If anyone ever runs into a gauge issue reach out to Pete he is the go to guy for factory gauges and shifters and is always very helpful.
Yes I used Pete for my oil pressure and coolant temperature gauges. I should just send him my Tachometer!
