The B&M is slightly shorter physically, but what it primarily does is eliminate the over-center linkage and other stuff that isolates the OEM shifter from the tranny. The B&M actuator ball is a single piece of steel from your hand directly into the tranny case. There is increased cabin noise, but it is well worth it.
