My V1 has saved me from tickets several times. I never drive anywhere w/o it.

I've heard good things of the V1, but still prefer the Escort 8500 X50. No matter the choice one makes, these make great investments and will save your bacon!

hmm...how much do the V1's run? and what are their options/etc. Like my friends has a scrambler/radar/laser/etc...
$399 for the basic unit...extra for remote display, case, etc. No scramblers, because (1) they are illegal and (2) they are as bogus as snake oil.

Preach on!

I recall that you were trying to decide on which detector to buy a couple of months ago. Welcome to the V1 admiration society!

Part of my deal to buy my GTO was for the dealer to have my Valentine 1 hard-wired into the car. I've owned Escorts and Bel's and there's no substitute for driving with the arrows!

That's so awesome how did you get them to do that? When I get my new 06 I need to look into that being done.

Without Employee Pricing on the '06, you should be ready to negotiate hard on price and "other" items like tint, your radar dectector, oil changes, etc.

I bought my car during the Employee Pricing offer in June when the GTO was included. I told them that since we didn't have price to haggle over, and I wasn't trading anything in to haggle over, that they had to be willing to throw in something for me to buy from them instead of me looking for the same car at the same price somewhere else.

They wanted me to give them a deposit (the car was on its way to FLA from the dock in California.)

I said, "sure, if you agree to tint my windows and hardwire my radar detector."

Since they contract out the window tinting with a local stereo/tint shop, they agreed to do both and the deal was done. I'm sure that it didn't cost them nearly what it would have cost me for the tint job and the same shop had quoted me $20 to hardwire my Valentine in my '99 GTP (which a buddy of mine did for free) earlier this year.

Very small "gives" for them that had big value to me .... and they got to close a sale.

Hey Groucho, spent some time poking around www.v1pop.com today. Mulled it over for a few hours, had dinner, just decided to hit the confirm button. $426 on the MC and I should have it Tuesday. Thought I should buy it BEFORE I get my first ticket. :cheers

I have gotten used to the cord for the last 7 months going into the middle box from the windshield. I keep saying that I will hard wire it but have not gotten around to it yet. Just make sure you put the wire through on the passenger side of the box and it should close fine.

Nope nope nope. I will end up doing the same thing you are doing, I am lazy like that. I am going to wire it in first, cause if I dont I never will.

I would like to see how everyone has wired in their valentines. What wire do you attach the direct-wire power adapter to?

I ran the wire down the driver side A pillar over to the fuse box. Ran the direct power wire right into the fuse panel.

Oh, and just the other day I was cruising along and had the V1 squak with a rear arrow. A trooper was merging into traffic about 1/4 mile behind me. Gotta love those arrows.

I've used the Escort Solo model for years but here in FL they use a lot of instant-on and laser plus they cruise everywhere and will be behind you (sans radar) before you even know it. Last week I had the top of the line BEL stealth unit installed with the laser blockers. While I'm not real secure with any type of laser "blocking" I felt that a $1300 system had to have something going for it. My son has had the same unit in his GT with no problems so I bought one too. I like having a clean windshield, no units for them to spot. Shop installed the little light right in front of the speedo with a speaker under the dash that alerts you with the type of radar clocking you. Unit itself is hidden in the center console out of sight. Also just installed the Kenwood flip HU with nav along with a complete stereo system replacement, sub and amp in trunk area with the DVD player. Think that's about it for now.......well maybe one more sub on the other side of the trunk, just not enough "punch" for me yet.
