my buddy and i went from a dig about a month ago with his mostly stock ss with muffler delete and good grip wide tires against my gto with only shorties and we held about even. Well recently i put on a catback, lss shifter, and a slp tuner and he just got on some kooks headers. we went again from a dig and we held mostly even until about 70 or 80 then he pulled atleast 3 on me and i hit all my gears! so im wondering whats it gonna take for me to pull on him?

I dont know if the Vararam is going to do any difference but for sure the dyno tune will. But just remember get the tune after you finish modding it.

:agree mod's first . cam and spring will give you all you need to kick his a.s.s. OH then dyno tune. if thats not enough then s/c it

cam $3-$4 hundred depending on what you get. i went comp cam
springs and keepers $280 give or take.(valves and heads are good for the HP)
new lifters(tappets) $250-$325.
hardened push rods $150.00 if i remember right.
new head bolts and gaskets, fluids
and a crap load of time.
or you could pay to have it done. labor cost $1500 to start. i do all my own work.

ever thing you need is right here. ask for Matt.
Texas-Speed.com

s/c on ebay about 2-6 K / new 6-8k magnacharger.
procharger not sure im thinking around 4-5K
installed over all 10k COULD BE LESS. again i do my own work.

dyno dyno dyno. i'm sure there are other folks out there that may very some numbers. but all in all im sure im not far off. cam is where i would start. that will give you the torc to pull his ass. and the extra hp to keep it.

good luck....

not really and then you'll also leave a lot on the table in terms of rpm. there's something wrong here tho. with a stockish SS you shouldn't even be close. they run in the 14s at the track and you should be in the high 12s-low13s. i'd get my car to a tuner if nothing else real quick and find out what's going on.

being that he's in texas on a stock engine .. high 13 or low 14's . :agree... here in colorado a 6.0 stock run's a 15.7 all day long. ive watched 6 or 7 of them run these time's at bandimere.

So your referring to a 2002ish Camaro SS correct? I would have thought the GTO would have walked all over the SS camaro. How much heavier is a GTO?

You're right but you're wrong too.

Stock F-body is running 13.7-13.5. Add a lid and an exhaust to the SS and it's a low 13's car. Low to mid 14's is what you can expect out of a LT1 car.

Stock LS2 GTO versus a lightly modded F-Body is a good race with a slight advantage to the GTO.

Man I dont know where you guys are watching the SS's run, but I've seen one that still had dealer plates, and a convertible!, pull a 12.99 at Pacific Raceways in Washington. My brother (he's a member here but dont know his screen name, DLP something) got his 2001 Firebird LS1 6spd to back to back 13.2's all stock - bent the 1-2 shift fork speed shifting on his 3rd pass though...

It really is a pretty close race... The F body is a mid 13 sec car. The Goat should edge it out stock for stock. Both cars respond very well to mods. The GTOs have all that torque management stuff stock. If you get rid of that with a tune, the Goat is an entirely different animal.

i understand what your saying but..... im sure that the conditions where perfect for this to happen on a stock car. especially on a new fresh engine. bring it here to the mile high state and he'll never see that on a stock engine. not much here brake's in to the 12's with out mod's and a far share of them to boot.

air temp, humidity, track conditions, R/T... all play a factor in pulling 12's

FYI don't get me wrong . i believe he did it. I'm sure it was a hell of run.:)
