Looking at your distributor it looks to be an original points distributor, so that resistor is to prevent you from burning up the points with too much voltage. You probably don't need that resistor because assuming that your wire harness is the original and intact, then it has a resistor built into it. But if you convert to a HEI ignition or something more modern than you will no longer need that resistor regardless

If that's what it is, a Mopar resistor....there should also be a a spare in the the glove box...or at least the box from the one that's installed in the pic. Those Mopar resisters were like the HEI modules...better have a spare! That's not a mod a would keep at any rate...lol.
