did he leave in the studded head bolts they mount to or did he replace all the head bolts with new ones? if you changed to non stock rockers, valve covers, etc, they might not fit anymore.

The idea is to catch the oil spray from the pushrods and drip it down onto the valve stem area. If anything has been modified on the top end (roller rockers, etc. chances are they won't fit any more. Some folks say they're required, some don't. If everything on the top end of the motor is still stock they certainly can't hurt. If you've ever run the motor with the valve covers off then you know that oil tends to go "everywhere" anyway.

I don't have them on my 461 because there's no way to mount them what with my roller rockers and stud girdles.

My valve train is all stock, I don't know if the builder put the studs back in or not, I have not seen it with the valve covers off. I will probably put them back in, I just hate to disturb the gasket and have it not seal.
