Hi all. I have done a system on a 65 Malibu SS and was less than impressed! Underwhelmed was not the word! I need a few ideas as to what to go with and speaker placement?? The system I did was a nice head unit in the place of the glove box to keep the original radio in the dash, 6x9s on the package tray 4" door speakers, big sub in the trunk, 4 channel amp, and sub amp w/ fader on the sub. Have any of you guys built something nice for this 65GTO???

Here is what I am looking at. Nice Head Unit with 4 low level outputs and Bluetooth. 6.5" separates using the aftermarket kick panels and the tweeter in the upper front door. Using the side of the trunk as a sub box with a nice 10 or 12" sub and a separate sub amp. Still up in the air but 6x9" speakers in the package shelf. I did see someone using separates in the back. Tweeters in the headliner sails and 6x9" in the shelf. This is a minimum for me but still hoping someone has done a 65 GTO up with something special I can duplicate????

I have decided to just use a Bose bluetooth speaker and connect to my iPhone. The audio quality in my convertible with my loud motor will be poor regardless of how much money I invest. I did what you are attempting to do, mine was in a 56' Bel Air with a 350 but not very loud compared to the GTO, and the sound quality is awful. I have separates up front in the kick panels and 6x9s on the rear shelf and a 12" sub in the trunk (all powered by solid amps and wiring). The sound is killer when the motor is off, but once I start the car it is awful.

Good luck

I think your right. Maybe the Chevelle I had was the same in regards to sound. The engine was loud and I just felt it was poor placement of the speakers. I appreciate the feed back.
