Hi All.

Is this steering linkage wrong? It hits the oil pan so much it is hard to turn the wheel and the stops don't hit, but the oil pan acts as one? Something tells me I have the wrong components and there should be way more clearance under the oil pan? Silly me with my OCD have to keep a clean shop and threw away the old steering parts!

I found this little problem lifting the motor to clearance the rag joint as it was hitting the header. The PS pump is the original but I replaced everything else.

This was just recently covered in another thread. If it is an aftermarket pan - that's your problem.

it looks like its time for some motormount lift plate spacers...
maybe a pair on each side....

watch your carb stud to hood clearance.................

Yeah, I didn't want to go that far with suggestions, but it could be all of the above. Some guys will simply dimple the pan to take care of it - but not the best of fixes.

Thank you guys for the ideas. My regular mechanic suggested removing the center link and he will gently bend it at each end. My body man was saying the rag joint was hitting the header and he could not steer it so he lifted the motor and blocked it so he could move it around. I have lowered it back down and the rag joint clears with an 1/8" so he was probably wrong and it was the pan hitting. I did see the other posts and just thought Canton would build a pan that would fit and I could have some wrong parts on it. I will do any and all the fixes you sent till it is up enough to clear. THANK YOU AGAIN.

I had the same problem with my 65 GTO that had an aftermarket oil pan. I fixed it by using motor mount spacers to raise the engine about 3/8"". That was several years ago and has been fine.
