On my way to work this morning, some kid in a primer-and-red Chevrolet S-10 SS pickup got all cocky. Why? Why would he do that?

I had been behind this kid at a traffic light, where I noted his cutesy vanity plate: "MY1STSS." He was first at the light, in the left-hand lane. When he cleared the car next to him after the light turned green, I changed lanes and passed him, returning to the left lane eventually and motoring along just a tad north of the speed limit. That evidently ticked him off, as next thing I knew he leapfrogged me. When we got to the next light, he made sure he returned to the right lane so we'd be side-by-side.

The lunacy of the situation made me doubt his intentions, so I waited to see what he'd do when the light turned green. Sure enough, he mustered up all the ponies in that little truck and took off. So I obliged him by passing him for the second time. Then I backed off and returned to being a commuter.

Although the road ahead was empty at that early hour and MY1STSS could've passed me and had all that lonely pavement to himself, he stayed several car lengths back, eventually turning right.

I still don't get it.

The thing that I love most about my GTO is that nobody knows what is under the hood. It seems like nobody knows anything about the GTO. I had a guy in a Civic think he could take me.

most of my brainstorms do. Lets see what else I can add to it.

LS2 with heads, cam, magnuson blower, and a 75 shot.
forged internals, balanced and blueprinted
bulletproof auto with manual valve body
5000 stall with 3.0 torque ratio
373 gears front and rear
60/40 torque split through transfer case
dana 36 front, dana 60 rear
255-50-16 drag radials on all four corners
oh yeah, and keep it right at 3600lbs

My prediction? mid 9's, in the rain!

Must be. My whole day yesterday turned out to be just as weird as the morning had been. Not only did I deal with that overconfident pickup driver, but a guy in a Hyundai Tiburon got cutesy with me, and then on my way home it seemed like I couldn't go two blocks without some screwball trying something.

Some kid in a Ford Escort was the first. He had a car full of goofball friends, and as I snaked my way through traffic he followed after me. When the two of us finally were side-by-side at a light, he chirped his front tires and took off. I suppose I'm pretty immature (at 44!) for taking the bait, but I gave him the satisfaction: I lit up the tires and roared past him, looking him in the eye and smiling all the while.

It got even stupider after that. A guy in a Prius--yes, a Prius--evidently wanted to test his hybrid power against the Goat. Good grief.

most people just want to see what these cars are capable of. At least you can roar past them! Hell they see me in my cavalier and think its a GTO! All I can do is go roaring past gas stations while they fill up. :(

A few weeks ago I had a beautifully primered accord pull up aside of me and start SCREAMING at the top of his lungs at me, while hanging half of his body out of the car. I couldn't help but laugh, (I assumed we wasn't trying to be helpful or nice.) I gave him a thumbs up.

Kill em with kindness. And then hit the FU#$ outta the gas so you don't have to hear their babbleing.

I have people see my car from a distance and you can see them gunning it to get up and try something but once (the smart ones) see the 6.0 on the back they back off by about 2-3 car lengths. It's like oh ****, I bow to thee. What a feeling. Some of the ricers are not so smart. Granted. there are some fast ones but I have only ran into one. I still won, it was the STI. He was to the left of my back bumper when race was over. It seems most of the V-8 guys will acknowledge you when the race is over. very few 4 bangers will ever make eye contact once leave em sitting and then slow back down. And they're the ones who wanted a piece in the first place.
