Okay being as I can’t seem
To find a better one, tomorrow I am contemplating taking my front bumper to a chrome shop, is this bumper salvageable? Or will be wasting my time? Chrome is peeling, there’s a lot of rust on backside but metal is solid! There are a few small dents also

The real question is...how far do the pits eat into the base metal. The chrome'r needs some meat to work with as they sand/grind the old layers off and if the pits are nearly through...they may cut through. A pit here or there and they can be welded up, but a pit-farm may just turn into a big weld hole. You have a rust pit farm there, best I can tell, but you'll have to judge how deep they go.

Call or email Kevin at Smitty's Chrome Shop (Nebraska). I'm trying him out on my front bumper and console pieces. Met him last weekend to drop off parts and he's good to deal with. I can't wait to see his results (and my bill...lol).

My GTO bumpers returning from Tri City Plating were well packaged when shipped back to me and they were flawless. I dropped them off at Carlisle Car Swap to avoid the “To” shipping costs. My rear bumper was peeling badly and had a couple of minor dents. No sign of the dents when I got them back and I looked closely for imperfections. Like I said flawless. Not cheap, but high quality. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them in the future, if I do another project car needing rechroming.

Just heard back from another local shop, price for my bumper, starts at 1800, plus 15 percent supplies fee, and they haven’t even seen a picture of it, is this one of those price it really high because we don’t want the job deals, or is this the going price for chrome? keep in mind, they haven’t seen it!

there are different grades of chrome work. i would get more quotes but
specify show quality if that's what your after.
even better if you can drive the part to the chrome guy.
look at his work. show chrome can be pricey.
long lasting and mirror finish i consider show quality.

I just recently sent several photos of my front bumper (67) to 7 different chrome shops for estimates. These are from July/August for the bumper only.

Red's Parts Attic ($1.400)
Advanced Plating ($2,600)
Smitty's ($1,325)
Ogden Chrome ($2,800)
Tri-City Plating ($1,200)
Sandy's Bumper Mart (no bid)
Electroplating of El Paso (no bid)

The no-bids just never responded to my email. That's a no-go when there are others who want the business. I did not go with the cheapest because I needed pot-metal pieces done and they don't do that. My bumper and shifter console pieces are at Smitty's now. He does tri-chrome (copper, nickel, chrome). I got to meet him at his sons for the parts drop...he was nice to meet, and I look forward to seeing his team's work.

Here are photos of my front bumper so you can see what condition it was in. There is some pitting on the back side, but not bad, and a few small dent/gouges (circled below)...

This pit may need welded up?

Otherwise, a nice core.

Custom Metal Finishing, Cambridge City Indiana did my bumpers, both for $2,800. They had some dings and a bit of a twist in one but they came out beautiful. Took about 8 months which is what they said it would and cost what they quoted me at the start.
